Experimenting with Multi Table SNGs

I had a quick look round the PokerStars lobby (as the 6max SNGs were taking ages to fill) and found there are 6max 12man and 18man tourneys.

I thought about it and if the opponents are as soft as the regular 6max SNGs this could be an excellent was of increasing my hourly rate.

Standard $1.50 6max SNGs pay out top 2 places at $5.04 & $2.70.

12 Man 6max SNGs pay out top 3 at $7.75, $4.64 & $3.09.

18 Man 6max SNGs pay out top 4 at $9.30, $6.96, $4.64 & $2.32.

So I had a go at both bigger formats and got crushed fairly early in the 12 man QQ v KK with no miracle coming to leave me on a short stack I was never recovering from. I did note in the sort time I played that the standard seemed to be similar to the STTs.

I then did far better in the 18 man version and came away with 2nd after a BIG mistake when the river matched my A (holding AJs) and the other guy had caught 2 pair - must refer to notes more. I was however very tired and put the mistake down to this.

A nice result in that the larger 6max SNG format is pretty bad, in fact I would go so far as saying it is worse than the STT version if that was possible, for example first big hand I played was JJ (see image below) where I managed to get all the guys chips when he thought a pair of tens is good versus a super tight player. I also managed to get called AI by 77 when I was holding QQ, I managed to also get lucky in a couple of spots but we need that and it was not risking a huge portion of my stack.

Result was I took down $6.39 for 49 minutes work, I usually take 39 minutes on a 6max STT !!!

Playing other games at the same time is pretty much essential now. Keeps me honest and enables me to stave off boredom when I have 4 tables on the go. I managed to win another STT so the BR is looking ok and the ROI% is going up.
