Nice game, poor finish

I have been reading Barry Greenstein's book 'Ace on the river' which is an eye opener into the world of a high stakes poker player. Respect to the man for his charitable work too, who would give their tournament winnings to good causes?

Only played 1 $1.50 6 Max SNG this am as was sorting out some stuff including a new Desktop Background which has some Starting Hands Charts and a nice Odds chart on it so that it is always accessible while playing.

I thought I played very well. Super tight again at the start, and got my break when I had AA in the CO, BTN decides to reraise and I shove, he calls with AQo. Excellent, until the river gives him the straight and knocks me down to short stack.

At this point in the past that would have been that, KTo a few hands later would have been all or nothing, but I stuck to it and got back to chip leader a bit later when I had AA again and this time it held against someone who I had noted as tight going AI with 53o, probably just a poor moment.

Note Taking: This has never been a strong point of mine, I tend to take notes when I remember and they are never that relevant when I look back at them. I am trying to do it more and make then useful.

This paid off a bit later when I raised my BTN with A9 hitting a Q89 flop, I raised and got called, the guy I had noted from an earlier hand would take a draw to the river and his call of my BTN raise indicated a suited connector type hand. The turn was a brick and I bet half pot, he called again.

River J made a straight for him if he was holding a T which was well within his range, having seen him do exactly this previously with KTo and get paid off. I checked and he bet out. I folded.

Bonus was he showed T8s so my read and note taking had meant I had played the hand perfectly IMO. The result was that I had lost the minimum in another unlucky spot.

4 remained at that point and I was now shorty again. I shoved A9 on the BTN and it got through, but a few orbits later the cutoff min raised when I held AJ. I had reraised him off a min raise before, but this time he had JJ and called. No ace came meaning I went out in 4th, but I feel this was one of the best games I have played recently, the result eans nothing, the play means everything.

Got to work now, but can't wait to get into some more later, I am feeling really positive right now.
